SNW is 9 years old!

SNW is 9 years old today! Now I don't have anything special planned. Working on the new website kind of messed up my planning. But it's still worth a mention! smiley

Hip hip hooray!

20 Mar 2013 - 23:20

I have no idea where to start, and I don't want to make this a long post so I'll keep it short and happy...

SNW is back!

The server crash caused the website to be gone for 2 months. That's something I never want to experience again! The temporary site was a burden to be honest. And at times so was re-building the new website. But it's up and running now - sort of. And I hope you all like the new look and the new layout of things.

It's not quite done... meaning I have plenty of old and new content to add, both on the news sections and in Simpedia. I also have to re-add the old downloads and I have a bunch of reviews to write. Errr. Luckily Cheetah and Mari offered to help with the reviews. :D

I would like to call the website "beta" as there will be things that aren't working properly and there are still things missing. We're still working on the site so please bare with us as we try to make it better!

If something isn't working for you, please let me know. We have a contact form, a Twitter account and a Facebook page. The comments below our news posts should work as well. Plenty of ways to contact us! Happy

I want to add a special thank you for Cheetah who has been a tremendous help working on the new website. <3

EA today announced that their current CEO, John Riccitiello, will resign by the end of the month. Until a new CEO is found, Larry Probst will be the executive chairman. Ricitiello was CEO of EA since 2007 but now feels it's the right time to "pass the baton and let new leadership take the company into its next phase of innovation and growth."

Electronic Arts Announces Change in Executive Leadership

Larry Probst Appointed Executive Chairman, Effective Immediately

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced that
John Riccitiello will step down as Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors, effective March 30. The Board has appointed
Larry Probst as Executive Chairman to ensure a smooth transition and to lead EA's executive team while the Board conducts a search for a permanent CEO. The Board will consider internal and external candidates with the assistance of a leading executive search firm.

Mr. Probst has played a leadership role at EA since 1991. In addition to serving as Chairman of the Board since 1994, he previously served as the Company's CEO from 1991 to 2007. As CEO, Probst successfully grew the Company's annual revenues from $175 million to approximately $3 billion, led EA into new platforms such as mobile, online and other emerging markets and expanded its international presence to more than 75 countries.

"We thank John for his contributions to EA since he was appointed CEO in 2007, especially the passion, dedication and energy he brought to the Company every single day," said
Mr. Probst. "John has worked hard to lead the Company through challenging transitions in our industry, and was instrumental in driving our very significant growth in digital revenues. We appreciate John's leadership and the many important strategic initiatives he has driven for the Company. We have mutually agreed that this is the right time for a leadership transition."

On behalf of the Board, Lead Director
Richard A. Simonson stated, "As we begin the CEO search, we are fortunate that Larry, who has a proven track record with our employees, partners and customers, has agreed to assume a day-to-day leadership role as Executive Chairman. He has 16 years of experience as CEO of EA and a deep understanding of the Company's strategy, management team, business potential and industry trends."

Mr. Riccitiello stated, "EA is an outstanding company with creative and talented employees, and it has been an honor to serve as the Company's CEO. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and after six years I feel it is the right time for me pass the baton and let new leadership take the Company into its next phase of innovation and growth. I remain very optimistic about EA's future — there is a world class team driving the Company's transition to the next generation of game consoles."

Welcome to the temporary SimsNetwork (SNW) and SimCityNetwork (SCN) website!

Here is a Q&A or FAQ, whatever you want to call it, that will hopefully answer some questions.

Where is the real website? What happened?
It's gone! The website as we know it, is gone. The server crashed. The file system corrupted everything. All the websites and mailboxes (among other things) are corrupted and unreadable.

What about backups?
We have one person who usually makes a daily backup. However this person experienced issues of his own right when the server was failing, therefore the recent backups are gone. We do have a few backups from August 2012 and those should be safe and well. Nonetheless it's from August 2012, which is why we lost everything that happened between August and now.

And what happens now?
After a weekend of inspecting the damage and lots of tears, I decided to continue with SNW. I have to admit losing my "baby" like that is hard and I had to think about whether or not I wanted to start over. However I know in my heart I would miss it too much. I would miss the games, the community, the people, everything really. So I am going to start over. My boyfriend (Cheetah from The Sims Zone) will help me rebuild and restructure the website. I can do it myself, but it will take longer if I do everything alone. It's a complex system and I'm really a perfectionist when it comes to my sites, so I only trust Cheetah to help me with this. A lot of friends have offered their help, and I really appreciate that!

Cheetah is the one who is going to download whatever is left of the files. After everything is downloaded and kept safe on a backup disc, he will install everything on the server again. Fresh and clean. Once this is done, most of the sites can be moved back, including a few of my own (since I haven't updated most of them lately, and therefore the August 2012 backups will be fine for those sites).

When will SNW be back?
Like I said before: we have to start over. I roughly work 10-12 hours a day on my websites, so I'm hoping to be back within 2-4 weeks. But in the meantime, this temporary site will have to do. We will post important news here, as well as previews/reviews and giveaways.

To stay up to date, follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks for sticking with us!

I was planning to write a post about this some time ago, but I was busy with the reviews and just forgot to write this. Sorry!

Our community manager Anita recently left EA, which came to me as quite a shock. She has been the Dutch (or actually, BeNeLux) community manager for many years and it's only fair to wish her good luck with whatever she is going to do next. Thank you Anita for all your hard work. Don't be a stranger, okay? We hope to see you on Gamescom soon! :D

In case you are wondering who will be replacing her as a community manager, that would be Jordy, who many of you may know from Simparool and Sunset Valley Times. He has been an intern at EA Benelux twice now and has learned enough to take on the role of community manager. We're looking forward to hear more from him! Happy

SimCity Social

The Critically-Acclaimed Simulation Franchise That Launched The City-Building Genre Stakes Claim On Facebook

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- There's a new mayor in town with SimCity™ Social! Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) today announced that SimCity, the world-renowned city-building simulator from Maxis that pioneered the genre, is coming to the largest social network in the world. A close collaboration between many talented people at Maxis and Playfish, SimCity Social brings the real city-building simulation to the masses, giving players the freedom to create sprawling cities that come to life as a result of player-driven choice. Launching globally on Facebook soon and currently in closed beta, SimCity Social is introducing groundbreaking innovations that change the landscape for social city-building.

"Facebook gamers have been waiting a long time for the original and best city-building game to come to the platform," said Jami Laes, Vice President of Global Studios for Playfish. "This isn't your typical drag and drop city-building game. Players don't just build a city — they choose the kind of city they want and watch its soul come to life as it grows and reacts to their decisions. With SimCity Social, we've taken the best in social gaming design and married it with unprecedented depth to create an all-new deeply social experience."

"Over the years EA has continued to bring major brands such as The Sims to Facebook," said Sean Ryan, Director of Games Partnerships, Facebook. "SimCity Social is a great addition, and we look forward to another high quality game becoming available to the hundreds of millions of people who play games on Facebook each month."

In SimCity Social, there are no set linear paths to follow; cities evolve as a direct result of player-driven choice allowing for more creative freedom. As mayor, players will deal with unforeseen issues like fires, crime and pollution, and will make crucial decisions that will help them discover how their cities take shape. Social interactions in SimCity Social go far beyond just visiting friends' cities or using them as resources to complete tasks. Players can choose to build friendly relationships with other cities or form an intense rivalry through a dynamic and ever-evolving friend and foe system. With multiple options for city growth, unexpected gameplay events that shape the destiny of the city, and city-to-city relationships, players will see recognizable changes that bring forth aesthetic and gameplay alterations based on the decisions made in the game — for better or for worse.

SimCity fans can visit www.facebook.com/simcitysocial to view trailers and sneak a peek at content. "Like" us on Facebook to get in-game items at launch.

What's this personal stuff doing on the front page? Well, some of you may know me, some of you don't. Some of you know why it's been quiet here, but others may not. I won't write a long post here, I just want to tell why SNW has been keeping a low profile lately.

A personal note from Rosana

In December 2011 my partner and I bought our first house. I was busy packing from January until the end of March. And then we moved to this new place. But this house wasn't ready to actually live in. It needed a lot of work (and to be honest, it still does). So we hired people for construction work, and our friends and family came to help us. That was mainly the first week we moved in though. By now there is still plenty that needs work and it's mainly me that has to do it now. You don't hear me complaining because it's fun, but due to my illness it's difficult to do it in a normal time frame like other "normal" people would.

In May I started working on some premium content reviews (and those were nearly done), but then my computer started acting weird. It turns out the hard disk was failing me. This week I'll get my repaired computer back and I'll be able to play and write reviews again. Can't wait, and from what I heard our visitors can't wait either haha! Don't fret, because I didn't lose the progress of the reviews I was already writing, I just can't access the files (screenshots + videos) right now. I'll be publishing the Not So Routine Machine and the Hypnotizer reviews this week. I will also cover the new premium kitchen appliances (the Fryer and the Ice Cream Maker). We have a lot in store for you!

Stay tuned. Because we're not going anywhere! Wink
