Hi Everyone!

raj barrek (Oct 10, 2007 5:58:23 PM)
MySims team: who would you say is your favorite MySim in the game?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 5:58:23 PM)
Everyone on the team seems to have their own favorites - mine is Jenny the geeky Sim who likes sci-fi fan fiction

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 5:58:47 PM)
What characters do you guys like? I think we're all curious.

Macomi8 (Oct 10, 2007 5:58:52 PM)
I love MySims (86 hours and still going!), but I have to ask, why all the unnecessary load times? I mean, going in and out of houses in one thing, but opening the menus? I'm just wondering if this problem will be solved in a hopeful sequel to this awesome game.

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 5:58:52 PM)
I know there are a lot of questions about the load times. A way that games are normally optimized involves knowing exactly everything that will be on a particular level of a game. One of the great things about MySims is that you have a lot of freedom in what you build and what materials you use, but it also means that we have to load a lot content each time you enter a level.

MarxistNapolean (Oct 10, 2007 5:58:54 PM)
how can you get more lots in the green area i ran out of space then i went to the forest and desert i have like 1 lot left i need more

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 5:58:54 PM)
Part of the game is making decisions about who gets to live in your town. You may have to kick some characters out but you can always move them back in. You do lose anything you gave them tho.

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 5:59:19 PM)
i think Dr. F is my favorite, mainly because i had so much fun building for his interior.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:00:17 PM)
Does the game have downloadable objects?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:00:17 PM)
It doesn't, but is that something you would be interested in?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:00:46 PM)
OK, time for some introductions - everyone tell the folks what you do.

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:01:04 PM)
I'm the Exectutive Producer for MySims.

Maltman (Oct 10, 2007 6:01:55 PM)
I've just invited Trevor and Dr F - they are hilarious - but I think my favourite is Cpt jinny.

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:01:55 PM)
Glad you like the characters so much. What are some of everyone's favorites and why?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:02:02 PM)
I'm a feature producer for MySims - i mainly worked on construction modes (the workshop, buildings and decorate mode)

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:02:08 PM)
Hi, all! I'm a designer for MySims. I did a lot of work on the characters and levels.

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:02:10 PM)
My name is Ian. I am a designer on MySims. I mostly focused on the tasks and construction modes.

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:03:14 PM)
I'm Hunter. Yo. I'm some kinda design guy. You may recognize me from expansion pack design chats.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:03:18 PM)
What is your favorite part about MySims?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:03:18 PM)
My favorite part was building different objects. We would have challenges among several of us on the team - who could build the cutest / spookiest / etc.. object. It was really fun exploring all of the different kind of objects we could make and paint.

beb luvs sims (Oct 10, 2007 6:03:19 PM)
How many people were on the design team??

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:03:19 PM)
We had 4 dedicated designers, but one of the great things about working on any Sims game is that everyone contributes to the design.

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:03:26 PM)
I'm a feature producer and got to hang out with Ian and focus on tasks and building out the townspeople.

iamthebest2006p (Oct 10, 2007 6:04:39 PM)
Does mysims have a story line.?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:04:39 PM)
It does sorta. You are building a town up from a run down state. Different Sims will want to move to the town as you build it up. Who you decide to move in is completely up to you.

Kittyangelgirl (Oct 10, 2007 6:05:42 PM)
This is a question for all you guys: What were your favorite parts in developing the game? Least favorite?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:05:42 PM)
My favorite part of developing the game was when we first hooked up the all the creativity tools. It was really cool being able to build anything we wanted and then see our townsfolk use them. My least favorite part was having to let go of features that we didn't have time to really flesh out, but that is the hardest part of any game.

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:06:18 PM)
For those of you that might be coming here from the Sims2 boards. MySims is a new Sims experience designed for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.

raj barrek (Oct 10, 2007 6:06:43 PM)
How do the "towns" work; are they similar to neighborhoods that we can choose from?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:06:43 PM)
As you play the game and do tasks for Sims, you get star points that eventually let you access the new areas of the game. At the beginning, you start out in the townsquare by default.

pepperjax1230 (Oct 10, 2007 6:06:50 PM)
How many items can you create in My Sims

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:06:50 PM)
In terms of creativity - you can build an infinite number of objects. Put the blocks together however you like, add essence flairs and paint away. Initially we were building chairs, tables in different styles - but eventually, we were creating pixel art, giant robots, and bathroom stalls. Happy

pepperjax1230 (Oct 10, 2007 6:07:22 PM)
How many items can you create in My Sims

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:07:22 PM)
You can build as many objects as you can think of! Some that I built were a table top war-game, a bathtub with sailing ships, and a spaceship chair. What are some of you guy's favorite objects that you have built?

sexyferg2 (Oct 10, 2007 6:07:30 PM)
what inspired the cartoony animal crossing theme of the game?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:07:30 PM)
It was really the decision to make the game for the Wii. We wanted a game that really felt like it was made for Nintendo fans. That said, they are still Sims to us - just a little shorter and squarer.

Soul reaper Spencer (Oct 10, 2007 6:08:31 PM)
Can u make other sims?

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:08:31 PM)
You can "redesign" any of the sims in the game by unlocking the salon, costume shop, or boutique. This pretty much lets you make whoever you like to hang out in your town.

sexyferg2 (Oct 10, 2007 6:08:43 PM)
are there any mini games included if so what kind? and hows the cooking..is it like the Sims 2 console (recipe) or do the sims just choose breafast, lunch, or dinner?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:08:43 PM)
Instead of mini games MySims has activities like prospecting or fishing that are integrated into the game. As for cooking there is some element of change but what objects you have built for your town ultimately decides what the towns people can eat. If you don't make a pizza oven for Chef Gino then your town would never have pizza.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:08:46 PM)
hey, wats up?wat is mysims really about.is it like the sims

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:08:46 PM)
MySims is really about player creativity and construction. You build an entire town, from the houses down to the individual pieces of furniture. The whole world is made of building blocks.

Kittyangelgirl (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:20 PM)
What part of Delevopment of the game do you guys like doing the most?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:20 PM)
I loved customizing houses and furniture for each of the Sims and being able to tell a story about them through what they say as well as what you find in their house. We hope you guys have fun "adding" to those fun characters too

Soul reaper Spencer (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:30 PM)
Can u go back and work on ur house when ur done building it?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:30 PM)
Yup! You can remodel your house as many times as you want. You can even use new building pieces that you unlock from moving in other Sims.

MaxoidDano (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:31 PM)
Transcripts of this chat event will be available on the website after the event.

pepperjax1230 (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:45 PM)
How many different sims are there?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:45 PM)
There are 80 characters that you can meet and it is up to you to decide if you want them to live in your town.

beb luvs sims (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:46 PM)
Have any of u guys worked on any other sims games orjust this one??

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:46 PM)
A bunch of us worked on the Sims 2 and expansion packs. Happy

ManagerJosh (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:50 PM)
Any secrets to MySims you'd like to share? Happy

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:09:50 PM)
One secret that i know of - which most of the team didnt even know existed - you can build floating objects. You have to play around with the blocks for a bit, but you can create objects that float (take a look at the bee chairs in Roxie Roads location, the chair backs float free from the seat)

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:10:44 PM)
And do they kids or adult Its hard to tell because everyone look about the same size

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:10:44 PM)
I think the question is "what age are they?" That's really up to the player, some are young, some are old, like Grandma Ruthie, but when you make your own Sim you can decide what age it is by what you choose in Create A Sim.

PreppyChic (Oct 10, 2007 6:11:04 PM)
When you were designing objects, did you pull from any favorite industrial designers or architects? Who?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:11:04 PM)
My biggest inspiration actually came from toys. I always loved building with construction toys as a kid: Legos, wooden blocks, Lincoln Logs. I really wanted to the things that you build in MySims to capture that same toy-like feel.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:11:57 PM)
Is mysims going to be able on anything other than the wii?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:11:57 PM)
There is also a sister DS MySims game where you build up a resort town and unlock mini games like scuba diving, bouquet making, or racket ball.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:12:20 PM)
Is this an Open Ended Sandbox mode type of game like previous Sims games?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:12:20 PM)
It is, though different. There are over 80 MySims characters that you can move into your town - so there is a lot of gameplay in moving in and befriend them all. But beyond that, you can build and construct new building and objects forever. It's only limited by your creativity.

raj barrek (Oct 10, 2007 6:12:54 PM)
When you play the game, do you play similarly to SimCity in that you're the "mayor" in charge of every aspect, or do you play as a single MySim that interacts with the rest of the town?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:12:54 PM)
A little of both, actually. You play as just one Sim who can run around the world and talk with the other inhabitants, but you also get to choose who moves into the town, where they will live and what their house looks like.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:13:43 PM)
what kind of jobs will there be?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:13:43 PM)
The Player Character's role is to build up the town, make the characters happy and explore the world. The Player Character doesn't have a job in the classic Sims 2 sense.

Avery (Oct 10, 2007 6:13:47 PM)
Will Mysims be coming out for the Xbox360?

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:13:47 PM)
No plans for this at the moment. MySims was designed exclusively for the Wii and DS.

jennyvier (Oct 10, 2007 6:14:22 PM)
I'm a fan of the gamer guy because of all the WoW and DnD in-jokes - Nice touch!

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:14:22 PM)
Happy - well we are all gamers after all. But Brian is the mastermind behind Vic Vector.

jennyvier (Oct 10, 2007 6:15:11 PM)
Any plans for a My Sims 2? I know I'd buy it! ^_^

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:15:11 PM)
Can't say yet, but it's good to know there is interest in another one Happy

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:15:24 PM)
can your sims have babies? if so, how?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:15:25 PM)
There are no babies in MySims.

beb luvs sims (Oct 10, 2007 6:16:00 PM)
Is it hard to build houses and objects?????

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:16:00 PM)
I don't think it's hard to build houses or objects - the part that gets tricky is building more detailed furniture or objects. We used a lot of the 'C' and 'Z' buttons while building to slide blocks in the right place. I've seen a 3 year old build a decent house in the building tool.

sexyferg2 (Oct 10, 2007 6:16:14 PM)
no mysims on the 360...but r there plans to make a seperate version of the game for the other consoles???

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:16:14 PM)
Not at this time. The ability to touch the screen easily like the Wii and DS allow are really important to the games.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:16:21 PM)
Kevin, you said that you can build floating objects. What do you mean by that? Did you mean they are actually resting off the ground?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:16:21 PM)
Yep. You can build objects that float off the ground - it requires some trickery with how you place the blocks though

Pintobeans (Oct 10, 2007 6:17:00 PM)
What is this game rated? Teen like other sim games?

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:17:00 PM)
E, with a bit o' Comic Mischief.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:17:32 PM)
can you create a town exactly how you like?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:17:32 PM)
Pretty much! You get to choose who to move in, what their house or business looks like, and what stuff goes in their interior. You even get to choose how individual objects look and feel! We had a lot of fun while we were making it making theme towns: The spooky Halloween town, or the town where everyone lives in a mansion. Are any of you building your MySims town to a theme?

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:14 PM)
Are there townies at all? Or NPCs?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:15 PM)
There are Townies in MySims. They are the homeowners who want to move to your town as it grows. We also have Business owners - like Vic Vector, who runs the arcade that also move to town.

jennyvier (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:46 PM)
Any tips on how to lure out 'Cassandra', the town ghost?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:46 PM)
The more Spooky Sims you have in your town the more likely there will be Seances with Cassandra floating around. The Spooky Sims often hang out in the dessert at night so thats a good place to find her.

Princess (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:46 PM)
I know there are really cute backrounds, but are there any scary places in MySims?

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:46 PM)
In the world, there lies a nook of such utter terror that you will never look at your television in the same way ever again.

TechNick (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:49 PM)
Does Chef Gino have a brother or sister?

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:49 PM)
Chef Gino has a cousin named Charlie who lives in the DS game.

Princess (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:51 PM)
I know there are really cute backrounds, but are there any scary places in MySims?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:51 PM)
There is a graveyard and crypt in the desert, as well as an enormous dinosaur skeleton. There are also many Spooky Sims that you can move into your town, and each of them have some scary stuff in their homes or businesses.

jennyvier (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:59 PM)
Any tips on how to lure out 'Cassandra', the town ghost?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:18:59 PM)
The more spooky Sims you have in town, the more likely Cassandra is to show up. She shows up when the Sims perform the seance - and since spooky Sims like to perform the seance... Cassandra is more likely to appear.

sexyferg2 (Oct 10, 2007 6:19:30 PM)
do you guys have a plan for a Harvest Moon type MySims...it might be a little cool to run a farm!

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:19:30 PM)
Well you can plant trees in MySims. Is farming something you would be interested in?

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:20:35 PM)
are there any sim families in my sims that have been in the sims 2. such as monty or beaker?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:20:35 PM)
Elmira the Librarian is related to the bowling loving Mrs. Crumplebottom.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:21:00 PM)
this game is so cool! how did you get the idea to make it?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:21:00 PM)
Well it was really prompted by a conversation a couple years ago. It was a "what if" type of conversation. What if there was a really approachability version of The Sims where everyone was made with blocks. That was really the kernal of the idea that eventually became MySims.

SoulreaperSpencer95 (Oct 10, 2007 6:21:25 PM)
Do u have to build the hotel or do u start with it in ur town?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:21:25 PM)
You start with the hotel in your town already, however you are free to remodel it to appear however you like.

PreppyChic (Oct 10, 2007 6:22:17 PM)
In development, were there any constraints or restrictions that you had to work around? Any particular problems that had you stumped but then had cool solutions?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:22:17 PM)
The Wii remote itself was really the biggest challenge. It was difficult at first to design the creativity tools to work with the unique controls of the Wii, but I think we arrived at a really cool place. Have you guys been having fun using the Wii remote to build buildings and furniture?

TechNick (Oct 10, 2007 6:23:08 PM)
Why didn't you use Mii's in mysims?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:23:08 PM)
MySims was already in development long before the Mii's were even announce. In fact the Wii was still called the Revolution when we started making the game. We fell in love with our characters and were already make them long before we ever saw the Mii's.

raj barrek (Oct 10, 2007 6:23:22 PM)
Are there outlined "lots" on which we can build houses and the like, or can we build whatever wherever? Happy

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:23:22 PM)
There are specific lots in the world where you can build houses. And you can rebuild any time you like by remodeling them.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:23:51 PM)
is mysims only for wii?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:23:51 PM)
MySims is for the Wii and there is a DS sister product.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:24:05 PM)
Are shops and places in town permanent?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:24:05 PM)
You are free to move in or out all of the Sims in town, except for the Town Hall (Mayor Rosalyn) and the Hotel (Buddy the Bellhop). Other than those 2, you can pick and choose exactly who you want to live in your town.

SoulreaperSpencer95 (Oct 10, 2007 6:24:20 PM)
Does time pass by in the game like real life?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:24:20 PM)
Yes, there's day and night in the game- but it follow's the game's clock and doesn't correspond to the time set on your wii.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:24:26 PM)
i have mysims to ds. can i so ask about it

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:24:26 PM)
Please ask any DS questions you want Happy

raj barrek (Oct 10, 2007 6:24:50 PM)
Other than moving in other MySims to the town, how does the player "unlock" different aspects of the game? By completing various "goals"?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:24:51 PM)
Exactly. You are trying to increase the Star Level of your town - it's rating. You do that by helping the townspeople get there businesses up and running by collecting Essences from the world and building them the things they need.

SoulreaperSpencer95 (Oct 10, 2007 6:25:31 PM)
If u move goth boy into ur town will he perform the seance?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:25:31 PM)
He will! But only when he feels like it so you have to get a bit lucky. The most spooky sims you move in the more likely it is that you will see a séance.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:25:44 PM)
Can you dig for treasure?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:25:44 PM)
You can dig for Essences, which are the creative currency in the game. You can even dig up Bacon Happy

vanessadiva (Oct 10, 2007 6:26:41 PM)
hi mysims people have a question can u actually woohoo ??

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:26:41 PM)
no, there's no woohoo in MySims, we are E for everyone Happy Were there other aspects of socializing with the Sims that you wished you were able to do?

Princess (Oct 10, 2007 6:26:56 PM)
Can you change your sim's clothes?Sometimes I feel weird wearing the same thing all over and over again :-(.

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:26:56 PM)
You can! If you use a mirror, changing booth, or costume chest you can redo your outfit as often as you like. You can even unlike other character's outfits to wear.

sexyferg2 (Oct 10, 2007 6:27:00 PM)
what r some of the features of the DS?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:27:00 PM)
I love the DS mini games in MySims (sky diving is my favorite). And Ashley the florist is one of my favorite characters. You can share MySims mini games with your friends as well as create textures and apply them to clothing and furniture.

jennyvier (Oct 10, 2007 6:27:30 PM)
I have to ask - What was the idea behind 'Plane Vs. Eye?' It crack me up everytime I watch my sim play it!

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:27:30 PM)
Well, it was pretty much right out of the brains of one of our artists. He went off to make an arcade machine, it came back as Plane vs. Eye, and the team loved it. The game is full of PvE references. Happy

Pirategirl (Oct 10, 2007 6:27:40 PM)
Where did you get the inspiration for the charcters? They're very different from each other.

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:27:40 PM)
A lot of the characters are tied to their businesses. What would an arcade guy be like? What's funny about the librarian? Many of the Townie characters were discovered just by playing around in the character creator and finding an interesting look!

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:28:24 PM)
If this game were to be released for computers, do you guys think that the community and creation in the game would be just as large as in The Sims 2?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:28:24 PM)
that's a great question. I think it would be different, because all of the creation tools are in the game. But I would like to think that people would have fun sharing stuff they built. I know we had a lot of fun showing stuff we built to each other during development.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:15 PM)
With Mysims and all of its creation possiblities, would it be possible to create my room in real life and re-create it in the game? I have a lamp with a baseball for the base of it, would it be possible to make it?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:15 PM)
We definitely tried to make the object construction as versatile and flexible as possible. We spent alot of time building objects of all kinds, just to see test the limits of what could be built and we were impressed with the variety of things people built on the team.

jennyvier (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:20 PM)
When attempting to unlock the 'uber sims' by making your town 100% of an essence, does that mean EVERYTHING has to be made of that particular essence? (ie: all the houses and business, and all the furniture inside them?)

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:20 PM)
Its not 100% of an essence, its 100% of an interest. Things like Spooky, or Tasty. So you don't have to use just one essence, but any essence that aligns with your chosen interest.

jennyvier (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:29 PM)
I'm a fan of the fact that the 2 mayors in the DS version and the Wii version are related - a cute little addition for those who bought both games!

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:29 PM)
Ha! I remember talking about this with a producer on the DS game and thinking "No one is EVER going to notice this joke!" Good eye!

chevronfox (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:32 PM)
Are there any plans to give the MySims pets of some kind? They'd look super-cute in the graphic style used for MySims (not that everything else isn't...)

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:32 PM)
Pets, why would anyone want cute little critters running around in the world ; )

Drew (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:32 PM)
Hi. I love MySIms! My town is great and is at level 5. Now here's the question, as producers what was you idea for the players to do after they get a level 5 star town?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:33 PM)
After Star Level 5 the game is really all about what you want to build. You can try to become best friends with all 80 characters and unlock their rewards. Special Uber characters will only come to town if you max out the town in one direction. It is pretty hard to collect all 6 Ubers but really fun to see them running around town.

mdsb759 (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:41 PM)
Does MySims have Aspirations like Sims2 does? If so, is it under a different name?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:41 PM)
MySims have "interests" - they have likes and dislikes and you can find these by reading their backstories.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:59 PM)
Is everyone town the same? Or would my Town be different from a friend's town?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:29:59 PM)
Each person's town will be different: you might have moved in different sims or built furniture that looks differently.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:30:06 PM)
how long did it take u guys to "make/design" the game??

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:30:06 PM)
We started making MySims in January 2006.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:30:42 PM)
MySims has very "peppy" music

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:30:42 PM)
Yeah, one of my favorite things is the different music for each location.

nelya57 (Oct 10, 2007 6:32:11 PM)
What is the major difference in MySim for Wii and DS?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:32:11 PM)
the Wii version has a lot more construction and creativity, whereas the DS has more activity's like mini-games. Each game is designed to take advantage of the platform.

raj barrek (Oct 10, 2007 6:32:27 PM)
Is Mayor Rosalyn the one handing down the town goals?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:32:27 PM)
Mayor Rosalyn introduces you to the town, from there you are free to explore and meet all of the NPCs and townies who come to visit the town at the hotel. Each of the NPCs will have tasks for you to complete if you move them in to your town.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:32:36 PM)
So is the player's main job to make and create a town, there aren't any mini-games or side jobs you can do?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:32:36 PM)
What kind of side jobs would you like to do?

Macomi8 (Oct 10, 2007 6:32:38 PM)
Are there any essences you wanted to include in the game, but didn't have room to?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:32:38 PM)
We really wanted to have zombieweed and yeti's-bane plants… oh well!

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:32:44 PM)
Dont forget pinecones, everybody's favorite non-edible fruit.

SoulreaperSpencer95 (Oct 10, 2007 6:33:14 PM)
How did u come up with essences?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:33:14 PM)
We really wanted a game where you collected the tools for your creativity. We think of Essences like your box of crayons that have been spread all over the world and you have to collect them all.

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:33:15 PM)
we also wanted to have a hedgehog essence

Maltman (Oct 10, 2007 6:33:49 PM)
I've found building furniture items can be really fiddly with the Wii remote - occassionally a piece will be really awkward to place, even with the slide under mode - or dropping a piece in the wrong place accidentally (very frustrating!)

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:33:49 PM)
Something we discovered is that sitting close to the tv made building harder. I usually build with my arms propped up on the armrest. If you hold Ctrl+Z down you are in free place mode so you have a lot more control for finicky blocks.

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:34:31 PM)
Err I mean Z

Pirategirl (Oct 10, 2007 6:34:54 PM)
How come you can build a house different than you built another, but they have the same interior layout? That's the only thing that bugs me.

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:34:54 PM)
So would you like it if there were different sized interiors? Even if they didn't match the exterior exactly.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:35:24 PM)
What is your favorite character in the game?

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:35:24 PM)
I am personally a big fan of Buddy the Bellhop. Who do you guys like?

LlamaspitPlayer (Oct 10, 2007 6:36:40 PM)
DS: So, what happens when you complete the star levels? Or does it never end?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:36:40 PM)
Well in both the Wii and DS games, even once you reach star level 5 you can continue to explore the town, unlocking new areas and objects.

SoulreaperSpencer95 (Oct 10, 2007 6:37:43 PM)
Can u move Poppy out because she looks corny?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:37:43 PM)
You can banish poppy forever, cursed to wander in the twisting nether outside of the town for all eternity… or at least until you invite her back!

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:06 PM)
Do you have any objects in MySims that are similar or clones of objects in The Sims 2?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:06 PM)
Since all the objects are built in the game in the workshop there are no cloned objects but there are objects inspired by Sims 2 like the hottub. The MySims Karaoke machine is one of my favorite objecs. The rewarding thing for me is that in MySims you can build the hot tub or karaoke machine the way you want to.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:10 PM)
was it hard making mysims and other sims as well?

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:11 PM)
Sims games are always tricky to make because they try to encourage creativity - so we never really know what players are going to try to do. We need to account for all sorts of things.

PreppyChic (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:21 PM)
Are any characters based off of real people (like someone on the design team, or a friend, etc.)?

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:21 PM)
Hmm...I have been accused of sneaking my friends and family members into the design. I deny it all!!! Actually, there is a character in the game named Matt who is obsessed with game shows. He was inspired by my real life brother.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:23 PM)
If you could put Wi-Fi features in this game last minute, what would you choose to put in?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:23 PM)
it would be great to let you send a snapshot of your game or something you built to a friend

Pirategirl (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:48 PM)
What can I do to get the pirate to come to my town? What interest is she?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:38:48 PM)
Cap'n Ginny won't show up at the hotel until Star Level 4, and she is a fun Sim. Just keep checking at the hotel - if you really want to, you can go outside sleep on a bench and check again the next morning. Eventually Cap'n Ginny will find her way to your town.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:39:07 PM)
ok so essentially you desing the game to the platform?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:39:07 PM)
We wanted to design a game that leveraged all the accessibility and the fun of the Wii and DS platforms.

Maltman (Oct 10, 2007 6:39:25 PM)
When I first started playing I had ideas that i'd build a haunted town or something but I've been driven by the different characters - maybe once I'm a bit further on (5 star level) I'll start to redesign a bit more. I've started relocating some sims - trying to group them together according to interests

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:39:25 PM)
I do the same thing, I had all the spooky Sims in the desert and planted all the spooky essence trees there and every time I walked by a night, they were having a seance.

Maltman (Oct 10, 2007 6:39:35 PM)
You mentioned your least favourite part was having to let go of features you didn't have time to flesh out - can you tell us about any of these?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:39:35 PM)
I think we were all bummed that we couldn't give the players a way to capture screenshots of the cool stuff they'd built in the game and let them show it off to their friends.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:40:08 PM)
i love mysims. my town is at level 5. as producers what was your idea for the players to do after they get a level 5 town?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:40:08 PM)
You should move in the characters that you left in the hotel and check out what they are all about. You also can become best friends with everyone, as it unlocks special blueprints. And don't forget to collect all of the uber Sims who will only show up when your town is maxed out in a particular interest. Plus I always love just building cool furniture to see if I can. Your town can never be really finished, as there is always something to improve!

PreppyChic (Oct 10, 2007 6:40:19 PM)
I am dividing my town into sections--the quiet people/goth people are in the forest, and the funloving people are in the desert. Grandma's by the beach (figure she needs a good place to retire), and most of the businesses are in the town center.

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:40:19 PM)
cool. It's so great that you are really building the town your way and telling stories about why people live where they do.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:40:50 PM)
Has anyone figured out how to run a hotel sucessfully

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:40:50 PM)
Buddy can!

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:41:56 PM)
Is it possible to create a backyard in the game and make a Barbecue and invite friends over to eat?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:41:56 PM)
Why would you want to eat your friends?

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:42:18 PM)
How do you get past the third star?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:42:18 PM)
Since you earn star points by fulfilling tasks the easiest way would be to move in new characters and see if they have tasks for you. Commercial Sims will have tasks for you so you want to find out at the Hotel who comes with a business and who is just looking for a nice town to live in.

ManagerJosh (Oct 10, 2007 6:42:21 PM)
What experience did you take from developing games like The Sims 2 that influenced decisions for MySims?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:42:21 PM)
Well Josh, since many of us are from the Sims 2 team. We took a lot. The main things we are wanted to incorporate were the creativity and humor that are so much a part of every Sims game.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:42:33 PM)
My town is currently at level 3, have any tips on how to make it go higher?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:42:33 PM)
Keep moving people in to your town, do tasks for them - and when your town is full, choose who you want to stay and who you want to kick out to make more room!

TinkerBell (Oct 10, 2007 6:43:19 PM)
I just have to say... I love the tip that you get at 5 stars that says "hold on, let me just reticulate those splines for you..." I crack up every time I read that one. I love how you guys throw things from Sims into MySims

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:43:19 PM)
That makes Brian and Hunter very happy. That you're reading all the text and you're getting the in-jokes.

jennyvier (Oct 10, 2007 6:43:38 PM)
As an Italian-American, I find chef Gino mildly offensive. Would you like to take this oppertunity to apologise? (Just kidding! ^_~*)

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:43:38 PM)
Is it the mustache?

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:07 PM)
Do you guys like the essences?

Princess (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:12 PM)
Can you have pets like in the Sims2 Pets?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:12 PM)
nope, sorry! however, there are some animal blocks that you can use to construct elephants, tigers, puppy sculptures or furniture

Macomi8 (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:25 PM)
I think Sims really need new time periods like midieval or future (like spacy). MySims would be awesome at this! Imagine an old fashioned butterchurn made out of potato essences or a really crazy dome house!

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:25 PM)
If we ever do make a butterchurn out of potato essences, you can claim full credit. Happy I agree, time periods sound awesome!

Echomouse (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:33 PM)
How can you get a Sim back to town if you didn't move them in when they first showed up or you kicked them out?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:34 PM)
If you didn't social with them at the Hotel then you are going to have to sleep on a bench or bed and keep checking the hotel to see if they came back. If you did social with them or you kicked them out of your Town all you have to do is open up the Relationship Book, Pick their Info, and on the Character information card there is a little icon you can press of a house and an arrow that brings them back to the Hotel.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:34 PM)
Is it possible to fuse furniture together with essences? Like make a Bed/TV?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:34 PM)
You can make "puzzle" objects that you can then piece together in Decorate Mode. We put an example of this in game to hint to the player - Dr. Fs location has a desk / staircase that was stitched together from 3 seperate objects. You could do the same thing with a Bed/TV.

TechNick (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:47 PM)
I think a good idea would be if the different blocks represented different size rooms, like a large middle with little blocks on the outside representing smaller rooms! or mabey 2 or 3 floors...

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:44:47 PM)
cool idea. Thanks T.

pepperjax1230 (Oct 10, 2007 6:45:26 PM)
Is there any funny things that happen like THe Sims 2?

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:45:26 PM)
I certainly hope people think so! We had a lot of fun writing text for all of our characters and sneaking in jokes and references to other Sims games. Also, there are a ton of animations in the game that still make me laugh out loud when I see them.

SoulreaperSpencer95 (Oct 10, 2007 6:45:26 PM)
How many areas r there in the game?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:45:26 PM)
There are three major areas in the game, the Forest, Dessert, and the Town Square. However in each area there are hidden nooks and barricaded off areas that you unlock.

Guest (Oct 10, 2007 6:46:34 PM)
is this video game harder than the other sims games?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:46:34 PM)
Very different. It's made to be very approachable for all ages, so in many ways it's much easier, but in some ways more challenging.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:47:01 PM)
What is the max. number of people who can reside and set up shops or community areas in your town? Would you have to kick some people out to get other characters in the game in?

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:47:01 PM)
There are 27 lots that you can move Sims into. There are 80 different Sims. You might have to kick someone out if you find someone you like better. Wink

Pirategirl (Oct 10, 2007 6:47:12 PM)
I love Dolly Dearheart, Poppy, DJ Candy, and Roxie Road.

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:47:12 PM)
So you feel like Pirate Giny is competition?

Maltman (Oct 10, 2007 6:47:21 PM)
who do you become best friends with a sim? Do you just build them loads of stuff with their fave essences? And what happens when they are your best friends? Unlock items, costumes, etc?

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:47:21 PM)
The fastest way to become best friends with a Sim is to make them objects loaded with essences they love as well as to finish all their tasks. Also you can be nice to them to win their friendship. Some characters will give you special blueprints and others will give you special costumes.

TinkerBell (Oct 10, 2007 6:48:20 PM)
Buddy is funny though cuz he trips all the time

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:48:20 PM)
Also, you don't see it as often, but every once in a while Buddy will salute someone so hard that he stuns himself for a second. I love that one!

Macomi8 (Oct 10, 2007 6:48:23 PM)
I love Bean Happy He is just so adorable!

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:48:23 PM)
Brian loves Bean, so you just made him very happy.

TinkerBell (Oct 10, 2007 6:48:31 PM)
I like Violet

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:48:31 PM)
She is one my favorites too

SoulreaperSpencer95 (Oct 10, 2007 6:48:41 PM)
I like Chaz McFreely! he's cool. i like his clothes.

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:48:41 PM)
Glad you like him! I had a lot of fun making his furniture - the motorcycle bed and racing chair.

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:49:00 PM)
Violet and Poppy were the first characters I ever designed for the game, so they have a very special place in my heart.

kat (Oct 10, 2007 6:49:49 PM)
hay all i noticed on the back of my sims seasons there is a backyard wishing well but i cant find it do you have to unlock it or somthing

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:49:50 PM)
That is not really the subject of this chat, but you need to call up the garden club and get rated. Okay, back to MySims! Happy

jennyvier (Oct 10, 2007 6:50:27 PM)
Some of the items that you've created in the game are very creative / inspiring! I for one, love the tabletop game in Vic Vectors place and the Bee-themed tables and chairs in the ice cream shop - so neat!

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:50:27 PM)
You can thank Ian for the game table. And Roxie's place was Shannon's (the producer of the game) pride and joy. She spent days perfecting her place - the bed is amazing.

TinkerBell (Oct 10, 2007 6:50:55 PM)
Is there much point to the game once I reach 5 stars?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:50:55 PM)
have you collected all the blueprints and become best friends with lots of Sims?

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:51:08 PM)
Are there any objects in the game that will get other sims that are close by wanting to use it? Like in The Sims 2 there was the video game console and other sims would join in or want to play.

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:51:08 PM)
Some of the objects you can build that other sims will want to join or watch are a Karaoke Machine, a TV, hot tub, and a dramatic stage. The Sims will also participate in things like picnics and rocket launch parties but you have to move Sims who are interested in those Interests. Fun Sims will have dance offs you can join, spooky Sims will have seances etc.

Pirategirl (Oct 10, 2007 6:51:12 PM)
Well, I'll love Giny more when she comes into my town. I'm sure she'll pass the others and become my favorite when she moves in.

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:51:12 PM)
hehe, good call. Wait until you get to build her Pirate Ship.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:51:55 PM)
How many stories/floors can a house have in Mysims?

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:51:55 PM)
Just 1

Angel (Oct 10, 2007 6:52:33 PM)
Are you planning on making MySims a series?

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:52:33 PM)
That's really up to you guys.

TheProgrammer (Oct 10, 2007 6:53:02 PM)
Is it true that in one of the Sims 2 Expansion/Stuff Packs there was a cameo of Mysims in the furniture?

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:53:02 PM)
Check out Celebration Stuff. Happy

MaxoidDano (Oct 10, 2007 6:53:54 PM)
OK..we have reached the end of our chat with the team.

MySimsKevin (Oct 10, 2007 6:53:56 PM)
Thanks for all the questions! Talk to you later.

MySimsBrian (Oct 10, 2007 6:54:06 PM)
Take care, guys! Thanks for the great questions. Great to hear your feedback.

MySimsIan (Oct 10, 2007 6:54:07 PM)
Goodbye everyone! Thanks for all the great questions!

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:54:09 PM)
Thanks for the chance to chat. It was great.

MySimsHunter (Oct 10, 2007 6:54:14 PM)

MaxoidVanquish (Oct 10, 2007 6:54:16 PM)
Good bye guys, this was cool. See you next time.

MySimsMelanie (Oct 10, 2007 6:54:28 PM)
Bye!

MaxoidDano (Oct 10, 2007 6:54:35 PM)
We will be posting the transcripts of this event on the website so check back soon!

MySimsMJ (Oct 10, 2007 6:54:42 PM)
Thank you so much for your ideas and feedback

MySimsTim (Oct 10, 2007 6:54:53 PM)
